Alex Montgomery Car Show 2011
The weather was a bit chilly and a little breezy, but the sun was out
and sky was partly cloudy when the day began. Cars began arriving before
9 AM and kept coming till about noon. The Cumberland River Cruisers
started registering the vehicles around 9:30 and completed the day with
at least 50 entries. Terry Riley, the manager of Alex Montgomery, had
broken his leg a few weeks before the car show and was limited to moving
around the car lot in a electric golf cart, so Shawn and James took his
place for most of the day, helping with the setup and providing drinks
and food for the car show entrants. At 2 PM, voting was closed and the
ballots were counted while tickets were drawn and several door prizes
were given away to start the awards.![]()
The
Good Ol' Boys car club had the most members attending the car show and
they were given the Club Participation Trophy from the Cumberland River
Cruisers.![]()
Shawn
used a computer in the office to determine which entry had came the
farthest that day. It was Clifford Norris from Bowling Green that
received the Long Distance Trophy and he had driven 1.6 miles farther
than the owner that had came the next farthest.

The
votes cast by all the vehicle owners were totaled and a Top Ten Trophy
was passed out to each vehicle owner that had placed 2 through 11 in the
vote totals. Terry, James and Shawn collaborated on which vehicle to
receive the Alex Montgomery Dealer's Choice Trophy. Their selection was
made, and Anthony Flowers was presented the Dealer's Choice award for
his 1930 Model A.

The
top vote getter was then announced and Don Thompson was presented the
Best Of Show Trophy for his Blue 1957 Chevy BelAir.

of the car show.![]()

Heritage Days: Sock Hop / Cruise-In
A couple of the things the Events Committee had been planning were a
Sock Hop & Cruise-In. They had lined up a DJ and wanted several of the
Cruisers to bring their cars to the Hop. The Cruisers parked their cars
on the Courthouse Square with several other old cars and trucks from out
of town. The DJ began playing 50's & 60's music about 6:30. A little bit
later, they started the various dance contests and gave prizes to the
winners.

The
Cumberland River Cruiser President Dave Neff and wife, Carol, won the
costume contest. They were dressed like they were right out of the
1950's.

Heritage Days: Parade / Car Show
The Cumberland River Cruisers had been asked to put on a Heritage Days
Car Show for the Burkesville/Cumberland County Events Committee after
the Heritage Days Parade wound through town. A few of the CRC members
drove their cars in the parade.
While
the parade was going on, other members were busy setting up the tables,
door prizes and trophies for the Heritage Days Car Show in the Park.
After the parade had made the trip through town, the people pulled their
cars into the Park and then registered for the Heritage Days Car Show
and were given a Dash Plaque.![]()
There
was a DJ playing music and people could buy items from over 25 vendors
in the Park. There were also several food vendors. At 2 PM, the Cruisers
began counting the votes and giving away over $100 worth of door prizes.
After the numbers were drawn and the door prizes given away, the
trophies were awarded to the appropriate vehicle owners.

After
all the trophies had been awarded, we gave away half of the 50/50 Money.
The
Burkesville/Cumberland County Event's Committee did a nice job
organizing the activities for Heritage Days, the parade was nice and
there were lots of things to see and do during the weekend.
The
Cruisers wish to thank the Event's Committee, especially Judge Executive
John Phelps, for their help and sponsorship of the Heritage Days Car
Show.
The Cruisers would also like to thank Mayor Riddle for his
cooperation in putting on this entire event.
It was 3 beautiful
days at the Park in Burkesville!

Country Cafe Car Show & Supper
A few of the Cruisers drove to Russell Springs and then went East on 80,
then turned South on 76 and ended up at the Country Cafe. Carol & Dave,
Chris, Randy, Stacey, Linda & Dave went to the Country Cafe to be a part
of the small cruise-in they have on Tuesday nights. We arrived just
before dark and were met by Darrell Smallwood and asked to park and fill
out entries for our cars. It was a free event and mainly just to bring
in customers for the Country Cafe. There were probably 30 cars, but some
of the pictures of the dark colored cars didn't turn out well enough to
be posted. The ones that showed up are below.
A
nice 55 Chevy pictured below with the owner and the Best Of Show Trophy .
After
the awards were passed out, the Cruisers went inside and enjoyed some of
the Country Cafe's 'cat fish' before cruising back towards Burkesville.
