Bicentennial Car Show
There were a lot of early arrivals for the Burkesville
Bicentennial Celebration Car Show at J&D Restaurant Saturday
morning. The Cumberland River Cruiser Members were helping with the
logistics of running the show. We started registering vehicles as soon
as we were setup and ready.
Jimmy
Patterson had the building open and James Pruitt and some of his family
were cooking during the day. Kelsey Bow was helping with the door prizes
and parking.
During
the day, an announcement was made about Jimmy's wife, Dorothy,
concerning her health problems. The show organizers decided to forgo the
usual 50/50 drawing and take donations for Dorothy. The people in
attendance gave generously. Most of the people attending the show took
time to walk over to the edge of the highway and watch as the
Bicentennial Parade passed by. At 2 PM, we had 78 cars when we closed
the registration. Several more pulled in after they had drove in the
parade. Kelsey Bow passed out door prizes to people with the tickets
drawn at random. Votes were being counted in the 7 categories as the
door prizes were being awarded. Jimmy came out of the restaurant and
shook hands with each person as he presented the winners with their
trophies.

After
the last trophy was presented, Phillip Davidson announced that we had
collected a donation for Dorothy. Linda Norris presented the money to
Jimmy and the crowd also gave Jimmy a nice round of applause as a thank
you.
It
was an emotional time, as Jimmy and Dorothy have sold the restaurant,
their house in Cumberland County and are moving back to Georgia to deal
with Dorothy's health problems.

February 24th Meeting
The CRC held our February meeting on the 24th in the Fire Training Building. We had a special guest attend the meeting. It was John Phelps the Cumberland County Judge Exec. John has shown interest in our club and plans to have the Events Committee sponsor our 4th of July Car Show. He also wants to do what they can to promote the April 30th Car Show/Swap Meet. Several points were discussed about what the Events Committee could do to help, John suggested that they might furnish a band during the April Car Show and maybe setup food and drink vendors. After some discussion amoungst the members and John, President Neff thanked John for attending the meeting and for his offer of help. John remarked he would attend another meeting as he was leaving. Dennis Hayward reported on the progress their committee had made on the April Car Show and Dave Neff gave Secretary/Treasurer Julie Waits a check from NAPA Auto Parts for the sponsorship of the event. Dennis had made the arrangements and Dave picked up the check. The membership then amended an earlier motion to cover the purchase of trophies and dash plaques with NAPA as a sponsor of the awards. Dave Norris gave Julie a check he received from Capp's Pharmacy for sponsorship of our web site. Due to health concerns, Julie Waits resigned her position as CRC Treasurer effective immediately. President Neff thanked Julie for her service and then asked for volunteers to take the vacant position, no one did. Linda Norris was asked to accept the position and Linda agreed to take the Secretary/Treasurer position. The meeting was adjourned slightly after 7 PM.

Albany Relay For Life Car Show
A few of the Cumberland River Cruisers attended the Albany Relay For
Life Car Show on Sunday. The rainy weather had caused the event to not
be held on Saturday and the turnout was lower because of the show being
on Sunday. They made the best of a bad situation and still had a fairly
good showing.
Two
CRC Club Members, Craig Coe and Jackie Booher, won trophies for their
respective entries.

walking around the grounds checking out the other vehicles that were at
the show.![]()

Green River Kruzers' Car Show
A few of the CRCruisers left Burkesville at 8 AM and headed north on SR
61 to Columbia to participate in the Green River Kruzer's 2011 Car Show.
The
Cruisers parked in the lot, set up their canopy and entered their cars
in the car show. The temperature was slightly over 90 degrees and the
shade provided by the canopy was welcomed. The canopy became even more
necessary when the rain began. We all huddled under it, inside a ten
foot square, for about a half hour, then the rain stopped for a while.
The Green River Kruzers quickly passed out the trophies during the time
there wasn't any rain falling. Our Cumberland River Cruisers Car Club
won the "Club Participation" trophy for having the most entries from a
single club.
Several
of the CRC members were awarded trophies for showing their vehicles.

Country Cafe Car Show & Supper
A few of the Cruisers drove to Russell Springs and then went East on 80,
then turned South on 76 and ended up at the Country Cafe. Carol & Dave,
Chris, Randy, Stacey, Linda & Dave went to the Country Cafe to be a part
of the small cruise-in they have on Tuesday nights. We arrived just
before dark and were met by Darrell Smallwood and asked to park and fill
out entries for our cars. It was a free event and mainly just to bring
in customers for the Country Cafe. There were probably 30 cars, but some
of the pictures of the dark colored cars didn't turn out well enough to
be posted. The ones that showed up are below.
A
nice 55 Chevy pictured below with the owner and the Best Of Show Trophy .

Twenty
five members and guests attended the event. The waitress took our drink
orders and brought those, then took the food orders and turned those in
to the cook. While the food was being prepared, CRC President Dave Neff
made a few remarks, then the normal conversations took over again. A
little bit later the servers began setting the plates in front of the

January Meeting
The Cruisers held their January meeting at the Fire Training Building Thursday at 6 PM. President Dave Neff called the meeting to order on time and several items were discussed. One of the decisions that the members made were to order new shirts. A few will be for new club members and a few more will be for the club to sell. We will be having monthly meetings on the last Thursday of each month until October was another decision that was made. Sponsor fees had been collected from three of the sponsors with more to be contacted in the coming months. Those checks were turned in to the treasurer. Discussions were going on about the club cruising to other events when we have a month without one of our events taking place. Dennis Hayward and Dave Neff announced they had opened a new business together in Burkesville. They're calling it American Street Rod Garage and are planning a Grand Opening on March 17th with free food and a small cruise-in. The meeting was adjourned a few minutes before 7 PM.
